Across the lentil of many ossuaries on the Holy Mountain is written: "What you are, I once was. What I am, you will become."  When entering the ossuary one encounters the skulls and bones of the monks carefully washed, labeled, and placed on shelves. The phrase embodies the ancient Christian ascetic practice to remember death.
